R&D Projects
Here you can check the projects in which I've been participating during these last years. In the first place a diagram with their duration is illustrated. Next, each project's description, website, and my role within it is shown below.UCADAMI; User and Context-aware Dynamically Adaptable Mobile Interfaces
The aim of the UCADAMI project is to research in the creation of a technological framework that allows the dynamic adaptation of user interface based on the user and the context of use of interactive digital content consumed through mobile devices and its evaluation through data analysis and experimentation with users. This will require to:...
Among other tasks, I took part in this project through the extration of user capabilities by measuring several implicit interaction boundaries; the design, implementation and evaluation of an ontology which models the functional capabilities of the user; the analysis and evaluation of context models and ontologies to be included in the design; the design and implemenation of an inference engine which considers both environmental conditions and their impact in the final application; and so forth.
SORELCOM; SOcial Routes Empowered by Linked COntents and context Mining
The main objective of SORELCOM is to provide a framework which will allow users to share and search cycle routes based on context data and impartial/unbiased information which will help to classify the current route. This classification will allow to find those routes which best fit the characteristics of the current user. SORELCOM will provide...
In this project I have been envolved as Project Manager. Through this position I have helped in the requisites collection process and in the whole platform design. Besides, I've carried out most of the semantic modelling and representation of the necessary knowledge involved in the project, including users, routes, planifications, and so on.
PIRAmIDE; Personalizable Interactions with Resources on AMI-Enabled Mobile Dynamic Environments
The PIRAmIDE project proposes to use user mobile device as a catalizer of the interaction of users with their environment, acting as a sixth sence which aids and assists us facilitating and improving our daily interactions with the objects that surround us in our workplace, home or public administrations.
Among other tasks, I participated in PIRAmIDE by evaluating the Imhotep framework, which is focused on easing the development of adaptive user interfaces. This evaluation was performed through the AssistedCity demonstrator. AssistedCity is a guiding application which helps users to reach to the POIs that they're interested in using the Augmented Reality paradigm. This application was developed using Imhotep, and several experiments were carried out to validate Imhotep.
MUGGES; Mobile User-Generated Geo Services
The MUGGES project focuses on services between mobile devices. It will develop basic components and market-ready mobile applications, in order to enable the provision, remote discovery and access of information from one mobile device directly (P2P) to another mobile device. The MUGGES project proposes the usage of GNSS Technology as the main driver of the...
In MUGGES I attended with the communication, design and evaluation of the mobile platform, based on the Symbian mobile platform. The programming was carried out using Java2ME.
DYNUI; Capability and Context-aware Dynamic Adaptation of User Interfaces for Ambient Assisted Living
The aim of DYNUI is to define an intelligent platform that facilitates the development and deployment of user-environment interfaces adaptable to the users, their interaction devices and their context. These interfaces have to be adapted both at the beginning and during the execution of services taking into account the users' capacities, their interaction devices and...
In DYNUI I developed a three layered architecture able to a) capture the implicit capabilities of the current user and the context ongoing variables, b) model and reason over the mentioned collected information and c) generate the correspoding infrastructure to allow developers and users to use the system.
THOFU; Tecnologías del Hotel del Futuro
THOFU is a large multidisciplinary R&D project which aims to enhance the offer of the hospitality sector through joint research on a new conception of the future hotel, from the spaces and their construction, to objects that reside in it, the interaction with guests, as well as the symbiosis with the Internet.
In the THOFU project I developed a specific and efficient location system which, applying several mathematical techniques and models (e.g. Bayes) the position of the user in the hotel was determined through a data fusion process (the location information came from different sources). Besides, a user activity classifier was implemented in Java using the corresponding binaries from Weka.
ACROSS; Auto-configurable robots for social services
The ACROSS project modifies the design of social robotics, blocked in providing predefined services, going further by means of intelligent systems. These systems are able to self-reconfigure and modify their behavior autonomously through the capacity for understanding, learning and software remote access. ACROSS provides an Open-Source development community to exploit different technological advances, some of...
In the project ACROSS I helped with the integration and maintenance of the semantic middleware which led the communication between the different platforms (including the robot and the mobile phones applications). Besides, an indoor supermarket guiding application was developed, including the most efficient route to the desired product/shelf. The pilots were launched both in Supermercados Alimerka (Gijón) and Hospital Comarcal Sant Antoni Abat (Barcelona).
